【Scientific Prowess】

Professor Qu’s scientific research fields cover the fundamental researches such as pathogenesis of myopia, ophthalmic hereditary diseases and ocular tumors. He has directed the clinical and translational researches of major eye diseases, and directed the industrialization study programs of ophthalmology, optometry and visual science. He has undertaken and completed more than 40 programs, including National “973” Program (as a chief scientist), National Science and Technology Support Program, National “863” Program and Key Programs of National Natural Science Foundation of China.

【Academic Achievements】

He has published 116 papers in SCI journals (as a corresponding author of 58 papers, including 14 papers published on IOVS (basic) and Ophthalmology (clinical) with the highest influence factor in the fields of ophthalmology and visual science), won 12 inventions and two second prizes of National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology as the primary person-in-charge.

【Main Achievements】

Professor Qu is committed to promoting the development of ophthalmology and optometry industry in China. As the main leader, he has established the department and major of ophthalmology & optometry to achieve an organic integration of optometry and ophthalmology, which has been regarded as the “Chinese model of ophthalmology and optometry higher education” in the international academic community. He has edited and published the first academic journal of ophthalmology and optometry as the editor-in-chief, Chinese Journal of Optometry Ophthalmology and Visual Science; he has led the compilation of optometry planning textbooks and established the first domestic optometry hospital integrating disease diagnosis and treatment and visual function correction in China. He has won titles such as National Model Teacher, National Excellent Hospital Director, a Young and Mid-aged Expert with Prominent Contribution with the Ministry of Health, a Special-class Expert of Zhejiang, an Outstanding Teacher of Zhejiang and the Major Scientific and Technology Contribution of Zhejiang; he has received the Special Contribution Award for Ophthalmology, Golden Key Award and Outstanding Contribution Award of Ophthalmology from the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology and the Chinese Society of Ophthalmology. He has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the New England College of Optometry and the State University of New York, USA.
