Chen Wei

A professor, a chief physician, and a doctoral supervisor with Wenzhou Medical University, vice president of the Eye Hospital, WMU, president of the Eye Hospital Eye Hospital, director of Boao Super Hospital International Eye Center, an expert member of the Chinese Society of Ophthalmology, deputy director of the Eye Infection Group of Ophthalmology Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, a member of the Corneopathy Group of the 9-10th Chinese Society of Ophthalmology, a founding member of the Asia Dry Eye Society, a member of the ocular surface group of the Ophthalmology branch of the Association of Medical Exchanges across the Taiwan Straits, an editorial board member of the Chinese Journal of Optometry Ophthalmology and Visual Science and an editorial board member of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology. He has been selected among high-level innovative health talents of Zhejiang Province.

【Scientific Prowess】

He has been in charge of one major research and development program funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology and three general programs funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, with an H-index of 26. He has performed domestically first surgeries at Boao Super Hospital such as licensed imported CATALYS femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery, Boston artificial keratoplasty surgery, V5 ICL high myopia correction surgery and artificial iris surgery. He has been engaged in clinical work of ophthalmology for over 20 years, specializing in complex and refractive cataract surgery, deep lamellar keratoplasty, corneal endothelial transplantation surgery, Boston artificial keratoplasty, etc., with experience in more than 20,000 cases of complex cataract surgery and over 3,000 cases of corneal transplantation surgery.

【Main Achievements】

He has initiated the closed penetration cataract surgery in the world, the manual wet peeling based deep lamellar transplantation and posterior elastic layer anterior membrane endothelial transplantation surgery, and edited the “deep lamellar keratoplasty surgery” published by China Medical Electronic Audiovisual Publishing House as a chief editor. The related researches of deep lamellar keratoplasty were selected as one of the “ten major research progresses” of corneal diseases in China in the past five years. In the 2015 Suzhou National Annual Conference of Ophthalmology, he held the first live broadcast of keratoplasty surgery in the history of the event, and held another five live broadcasts of the same surgery in such academic conferences as the first live show of keratoplasty surgery at the Zhongshan Eye Center. He has organized 20 national continued education classes for lamellar keratoplasty and cataract surgery, having trained over 1,500 ophthalmology students at all levels.
